Forêt de Tronçais

The largest oakforest in Europe.

Within walking distance of our site you will find the Forêt de Tronçais; the largest oak forest in Europe. Here you will find oaks that are over 400 years old, sometimes with a girth of 4 to 6 meters. In the forest there are a number of lakes where you can swim: The Etang de Pirot, Etang de Tronçais, Etang St. Bonnet and Etang de Saloup are well worth a visit. In the middle of the forest is the Viljo Fountain, which recalls the existence of a Gallo Roman villa.

Towns and villages in the area 

In In the neighborhood you will find beautiful villages. Lurcy lévis is less than a fifteen minute drive and is also known for its street art. Streetart City is highly reccomended.
Half an hour's drive away; one of the most beautiful towns in the Allier is Medieval Herisson.
Bourbon l'Archambault is also a half hour drive from our Domaine and is known for its beautiful historic fortress and Thermal waters.
Within an hour's drive you will find the larger cities; Moulins, Nevers, Montluçon & Bourges.
For wine lovers, we recommend Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule and Sancerre. These are well-known wine regions.  

Activities

In the woods next to the campsite you can enjoy walking, cycling, mountain biking and horse riding in the area. Fishing enthusiasts can also indulge themselves here. Note: you do need a fishing license!

Don't feel like bringing your bike? We rent 3 mountain bikes.

The Allier is part of the Auvergne, and has a river that flows through the area. This river is ideally suited for canoeing and has beautiful walks.

And, if you like markets and brocantes, you can also visit the local ones in the area. Karin is aware of the dates of the local flea markets and is happy to inform you about this. 

Canal de Berry
This canal, built in the 19th century, is 320 kilometers long and has no fewer than 116 locks. The Berry Canal is also an ideal place for fishing and walking.

If you really want a cool experience, explore the Forêt on the trottinette (electric scooter with fat tires) accompanied by Sylvain.
